Mallee arts Day: School students are introduced to the Mallee and the threatened Malleefowl, they also get to light fires with sticks, play the didgeridoo, paint and throw a boomerang in the traditional aboriginal way and finally, they learn the joys of singing and making music.

Harley Hayward holds the children entranced with stories of aboriginal bushlore, he teaches them how to light a fire with rubbing sticks and the art to throwing a boomerang.

Athol Farmer, local aboriginal artist of international acclaim, teaches the school children how to paint using traditional methods and then each child gets to put their handprint on a large art work Athol has dedicated to Yongergnow entitled Malleeyfowl Mound.

Local musician and well known folk singer Carmel Charlton taught the children to play simple instruments and sing funny folk songs.

This wonderful Mallee Arts Day was sponsored by Healthway Go for '2fruit&5veg' to promote healthy eating  habits for kids.
