Yongergnow Australian Malleefowl Centre in Ongerup, Western Australia
Survival on the land - the mallee, the malleefowl, the community

Quiet, timeless, subtle, magical, full of surprises -
the Western Australian mallee described by those who visit.

The Yongergnow Australian Malleefowl Centre reflects all these qualities and many more that are still waiting to be discovered in the small rural town of Ongerup. This innovative new venture is completely community owned and will provide visitors with a unique experience.

You will learn how the industrious people of Ongerup have adopted the threatened Malleefowl as an icon and are working towards saving its habitat and in turn, saving their town. You will see a breeding pair of Malleefowl in a large aviary and learn about the proposed captive breeding program.

You can wander through the exhibition "Fowl Play" which tracks the history of this facinating bird and its habitat over 40 million years - which is quite a story!

Enjoy a relaxing coffee and a snack in the cafe or out on the veranda surrounded by bush. Buy a gift in the shop or take time out to see what the researchers are up to.
