' MALLEE  ARTS  DAY '

The ' Go for 2 & 5 ' Healthway Mallee Arts Day held recently at Yongergnow was a roaring success. And with ninety children from surrounding primary schools in attendance the noise level at the centre was certainly that!

Activities included Noongar culture with Ken Haywood and Athol Farmer.  The children from the Gairdner, Pingrup, Jerramungup and Ongerup schools loved the dance and movement components with the 'Emu Dance' being the favourite!

Local artists Rosemary Powell and Deborah Badger ran the banner painting activity and created some amazing and very large banners which will hang in the main streets of each town for a period.

Music was also on the agenda with Neil Morgan teaching the kids the environmental awareness song written by Ross Strahan ' Who Cares?'

Kelly and Judy O'Neill filled the children with local knowledge about the Mallee bushland and the Malleefowl with an interactive walk through the bush and around the aviary, as well as the 'Fowl Play'  display inside the centre.

Congratulations to Judy O'Neill & Karla Newitt who co-ordinated the day; no mean feat with so many children, and to all their helpers for their hard work.

Yongergnow acknowledges the support of Healthway and the Cancer Council of WA through the ' Go for 2 & 5' campaign for their financial assistance to run this programme.
